Why this should be read: This is an excellent look at Vala's early time spent with SG-1, complete with not really fitting in, but even that pales in comparison to the sheer humor running rampant through this fic. Vala cheats. Teal'c lets her cheat. In fact, Teal'c encourages her to cheat and comes up with thieving plans of his own to cheer her up and invents the Tau'ri Right of Gel'a'tin. If anyone can bring out Teal'c's inner troublemaker, it's Vala.
"Next time they won't believe I don't know the rules, though."
"Then we will beat them without cheating," Teal'c says.
"Without cheating much," Vala says. "Just enough to keep things ... entertaining and challenging."
"As you say," Teal'c says, inclining his head with the barest hint of a smile. Vala thinks he may be humoring her, but that's more than anybody else has felt inspired to do, and right at that moment she'll take it.
"The gift should probably be something that's a symbolic representation of what our culture has to offer them," Daniel says. "I'm not sure what my unwillingly-removed pants would symbolize, but let's not find out."
"I have a pencil," Sam says.
"Tau'ri culture is not much like a pencil," Teal'c says.
"It's useful," Sam says. "And..."
"Breaks a lot?" Vala offers. "Can be easily erased? Is useful when you're not sure you want to make a long-term commitment?"
"Okay, maybe not," Sam says.
