Why this should be read: I would rec this fic for the perfect character voices alone, but it is also fabulous as an "outsider" perspective, with an open minded and perceptive Teal'c considering the strange new world where he has exiled himself. Basically Teal'c interacts with the other members of Sg-l, explores the SGC, prepares for an off world mission, and it's all just perfect.

The Tau'ri seem not to mind having more questions than answers.

"Well, yes, but history that isn't written down, that may not even have been passed down in oral tradition, but that we can still see in what people used and built, in all the things they ..." Daniel looks around his office, which is still largely bare except for stacks of books, and settles on his writing desk. "All right, what's this?"

"It appears to be a desk," Teal'c says carefully.

"It does," Daniel says. "If I were coming in here knowing nothing about this culture, I would think, okay, maybe a desk, maybe a table for eating, maybe something else." He slides open a drawer. "Here's paper and pens, and -- well, just pretend they've gotten my computer set up already, all of that is for writing, so 'desk' is seeming more likely."

"You have determined that a desk is a desk," Teal'c says.

"Right," Daniel says. He doesn't look displeased, and indeed seems happier than Teal'c has seen him so far. Teaching animates him, brings a light to his face and a confidence to his voice. "So who built it?"
