Why this should be read: In this fic SG-1 goes to the infirmary after "Emancipation", and I have no problem saying that I liked it much better than that episode. It's one of the best Janet fics I've read, in which we get to see Janet's first impressions of SG-1, (almost always fun), and learn a lot about Janet in the process. The stage is set for Janet's relationships with SG-1 and her easy friendship with Sam. And there is plenty of low key humor and funny lines but they don't undermine my belief in the characters or the essential seriousness of the elements that this story explores.
On Janet Fraiser’s third day at the SGC, she meets SG-1 for the first time, as they return from the mission in "Emancipation". Sam gets in trouble, Daniel gets in trouble, Jack gets maternal, and Janet gets to go home and shower.

Even sitting down, he loomed over her by a few inches, but that worked to Janet’s advantage, not his: she was used to being dwarfed by airmen, so it took him aback more than it did her. She reached around with gloved hands to feel the back of his neck for signs of Goa’uld entry. His gaze flickered between her (open curiosity) and the rest of his team (concern; information). “Tell me a little about your mission so I know what to look for,” she suggested.
His eyebrows shot up. “Oh, it was a lot of fun, actually,” he replied dryly. “We met some Mongolian traders and got some medicine samples from them, which you might find interesting.”
“I bet.”
“Then we went to a party and the leader’s teenage son kidnapped Carter and sold her to some warlord who had a daughter he wanted to marry, and we had to buy her back,” he continued. “Then we got away, but we had to go back because the warlord was going to stone his own daughter to death and Carter challenged him to hand-to-hand and beat the crap out of him. And then the star-crossed teenagers got married. That about cover it, Daniel?”
“The Reader’s Digest version,” Jackson mumbled from the next bed.
