This is a short conversation between Sam and Daniel, just after Hathor. It's early days, but their budding camaraderie can still be seen.

"How was your day?"

Daniel busied himself re-wrapping his burrito. "Is that an actual question, or are we being macho as usual?"

"Women in the Air Force get a special dispensation from being macho," Sam said seriously. "10 U.S.C. 775."

Daniel glanced up, looking like he half-believed her. "Really?"

"No. I think that's something about uniform issue."

"This is military humor?"

"Would you prefer physics humor? Because those are really the two kinds I've got."

"Not so much so," Daniel said. His fingers moved restlessly over the tabletop. "I keep thinking about the host."

This is a brilliant fic -- I'm so glad to see it recced.

And it fascinates me that, even though this is early-seasons fic for a fandom that's been around for over a decade, penknife managed to find a psychological twist in Daniel's reactions which is absolutely plausible but that I've never seen anyone else suggest before.
