What is this community all about?
Gen SG-1 fic recs are a rare and wonderful thing. This community is designed to be an opportunity for all SG-1 fans with gen-colored glasses to rec their favorite stories.
I want to post a rec!
It's welcomed and it's easy! You don't even have to be a member of the community to post an entry.
What kind of stories can I rec?
The rules are pretty simple: all fics must be SG-1 related, and they must be gen...
Actually, to some, that's not all that simple! :)
For the purposes of this community, "SG-1 related" is defined as a story that is either easily recognized as being part of the SG-1 universe or that features characters that are part of the SG-1 universe. Crossovers are welcome, as long as the SG-1 characters play a major role in the story.
Gen has multiple meanings, and for the purposes of this community, all these definitions are in use. Stories must not contain any ship between the main characters, or anyone else (including original characters); any canon ship must be peripheral, without explicit romance; and fics should be rated PG-13 or below. If you want to rec a story that is R-rated for other reasons, please ask the mod for clarification before posting. Mod's decisions are final.
Yes, many people in the SG-1 fandom - and other fandoms - have different definitions of gen. And that's fine. But in this rec community, those are the rules.
At this time, stories that include "real people" - for example, Amanda Tapping and Samantha Carter accidentally switching universes - may not be recced.
What do you mean by "canon ship"? Jack/Sam and Daniel/Vala are canon, right?
Not here they aren't. :) "Canon ship" means Jack/Sara, Daniel/Sha're, Sam/Pete, and Teal'c/Drey'auc. Also Teal'c/Shau'nac and Teal'c/Ishta, because our Jaffa is a lucky guy. ;) But any recced fic can only include such ships peripherally. For example, you may rec a pre-series Jack story that includes scenes from his marriage. Bedroom scenes, however, are off-limits, and romance cannot be a main point of the fic.
Can I rec stories about canon AUs that include Jack/Sam or Daniel/Vala ship?
Not at this time, no. If there is sufficient interest, this rule might be reconsidered in the future. If you want to rec a story and you're unsure if it fits the rules, feel free to ask here in the comments or e-mail sg1.fig at gmail.
Can I rec my own fic?
No. This community is not for self-promotion. There are many other communities where authors can submit links to their own stories. Please rec other people's works only.
Can I rec other fanworks besides fics?
No. Vids and meta and artwork and icons are all wonderful, but this community is specifically for reccing gen fic.
What format should I use to post my rec?
Please use the following format:

Warnings are at the reccer's discretion, but if the story you are reccing includes peripheral pairings or is not yet finished, you must mention that in the warning section.
Should I tag my own rec? What tags should I use?
You are welcome to tag your own rec, using the tags already created for the community. If you want a mod to tag your fic for you, that's fine, too; but please make sure that you list every appropriate tag in the categories. If it's not listed in the category section, it won't be tagged.
If there is a tag that you want to include that isn't listed on the comm, please comment here with your request, and the tag will be added as soon as possible.
Can I rec a story that has already been recced in this community?
We'd rather you didn't, because we're greedy and we want more fic! :) You can always comment at a previous rec to add your own approval and enthusiasm. Still, don't feel obligated to scroll through the entire community to check if a fic has already been recced - although a quick glance at the appropriate tags might help you spot it.
Can I rec a story that has already been recced elsewhere?
Certainly! Feel free to post a rec you've made elsewhere, whether it's in your own journal or another reccing community.
Someone recced a fic that doesn't fit the community rules or that I personally think is awful!
If you think a story isn't gen or SG-1-related, e-mail sg1.fig at gmail.com and explain why. Mod's decisions are final.
If you don't like a story that was recced, don't read it. There will be no tolerating of flames. If you rec a story and someone comments to your rec with a flame, e-mail sg1.fig at gmail.com immediately. Any such comments will be deleted. Please be aware, however, that courteous discussion of a story's pros and cons is not considered flaming.
I have a question that you haven't covered.
Please comment here or e-mail. Questions and comments are welcomed and appreciated.

Oh, and, y'know, there's no reason why people couldn't go back and edit their recs when one was discovered to match a new theme. Not perfect, but it's something.
