I'll be offline for the next two weeks, but I wanted to remind you all that we're still running the other media theme. If you've got a favorite vid, podfic, meta essay, comic, or picspam that you'd like to share, we'd love to see it recced here!

A new theme, and a request for future ones

  • Jul. 21st, 2013 at 5:10 PM
...So, remember that time back in October when we had a new theme of on the edges of canon?

We had six recs on that theme (click on the link above to read them), through March of this year, and then -- silence. My fault, I know.

So in an effort to get this rec comm going again (because I still love SG-1, as most of you do as well, and I've seen more and more references to rewatches lately), I've chosen a new theme for us: other media.

This is your opportunity to rec any kind of fanwork that's gen and related to SG-1, whether it's vids, picspam, meta, fanart, or any other kind of media that isn't actually fic.

Use common sense regarding the gen rules for the comm. Picspam for Moebius that includes the Sam/Jack kiss or a vid for Unending that includes scenes of Daniel/Vala aren't a problem, as long as they're not the focus of the fanwork; a vid that highlights every Daniel/Sha're kiss throughout the show, even though it's the pairing that's dear to my heart, shouldn't be recced here. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

I would also like to invite suggestions for future themes. You can see the list of past themes over here. And, of course, don't forget that any gen rec is welcome at any time, even if it's not related to the current theme.
I have been a horrible mod of late. My apologies to all of you.

Three (!) months ago, we had a new theme: season six. We had two recs with that theme posted.

Field Trip, by Eponymous Rose (G)

Naturally Selective by Elizabeth (PG)

There was one other non-themed rec posted since then:

SG-1's Siren Song by thothmes (PG)

Thanks to Seaboe and Campy for their contributions!

Our new theme is the edges of canon. What happened pre-series? Post-series? In one of the canonical alt-universes/timelines? How about characters we meet and never see again, like Nyan or Harlan or Merrin -- what happened to them? If you know of a gen fic that touches on these questions, we want to see it recced here!

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the the edges of canon tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

Calling all reccers: Season Six recs!

  • Jul. 16th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Long past time for a new theme here at [community profile] sg1genrecs! This time, we're looking for stories that are set in Season Six, SG-1's stepchild season that's all-too-often neglected by writers. Fics can be episode related or not, but they should be set in S6. The fic doesn't have to be Jonas-specific if it's set in S6 -- recs about stories regarding Abyss or Changeling or Allegiance would be fine, for example. And Jonas-centric fic regarding Meridian/Fallen/Homecoming would be welcome, too.

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the season six tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

Valuable Vala recs, and others

  • Jul. 4th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
It's been two weeks since the last rec. Time for another theme, I think!

We only had three fics recced for the valuable Vala theme:

Truth in Fiction, by Cleo the Muse (G)

Vala Alphabet Soup, by Various (PG-13)

Fair Play by penknife (PG)

However, we had several other fics recced during that time, including several by a new reccer, [personal profile] seaboe_muffinchucker (welcome!):

A Common Virtue by Charlie Booker (PG)

This Nest of Sparrows by Charli Booker (PG)

For More Than Country by Regency (R)

Bonded by Tallulah Rasa (not rated by author; PG)

Half-Crazy by Teand (not rated by author; PG)

Thanks to Seaboe and [personal profile] pipisafoat for their recs!

I'll be announcing a new theme shortly; suggestions are, as always, welcome. In the meantime, don't forget that any gen fic can be recced at any time, regardless of theme! And to the 'Murcans out there, hope you're having a happy Fourth. :)

Calling all reccers: Vala recs!

  • May. 10th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Time for a new theme! We're looking for stories that appreciate the value of Vala. If you know a good gen story that highlights Ms. Mal Doran, we want to see it recced here!

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the valuable Vala tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

Reccers' Weeks roundup

  • May. 1st, 2012 at 2:27 PM
We had a very successful month's worth of Reccer's Weeks. Here's the roundup, by reccer:

yvi )

pipisafoat )

paian )

fignewton )

My thanks to all of you for your recs! :)

We'll be starting a new theme as soon I think of one. In the meantime, feel free to chime in with your own suggestions, and don't forget that all gen recs, no matter what the theme, are always welcomed.

Sadly, the comm has been very quiet lately. I know this is mostly my fault, as admin, but I also need the participation of all you lovely people to help keep the comm thriving!

Here are the few recs we had for the things that go *boom* theme:

Evening Shadows, by Settiai (PG)

Chance by Mitai (PG-13)

Kaboom by kellifer (PG)

We also had some non-themed recs, listed below:

Growing Pains, by KelinciHutan (PG)

Survival, by Somehowunbroken (PG)

A Cinderella Story, by Tallulah Rasa (PG)

Between Two Waves of the Sea, by Stringertheory (PG)

My thanks to [personal profile] rbmifan and [personal profile] paian for their regular reccing. It's much appreciated. :)

On to plans for next month: we're going to do a repeat of our reccer's weeks, which we last did back in July 2010. During reccer's weeks, one person commits to making at least two gen recs, related to any (or no) theme, during her (or his) specific week. By signing up, you are committing yourself to reccing a minimum of two stories during that week, although more recs would certainly be welcome! Please do not volunteer if you don't think you will be able to rec two fics.

There are four week-long reccing periods available:

April 1 - 7 - claimed by [personal profile] yvi

April 8 - 14 - claimed by [personal profile] pipisafoat

April 15 - 21

April 22 - 28

Those that volunteer get their own tag, which they may continue to use even after their week is over.

Comment below to claim a specific week or to ask any questions you might have. And in the meantime, the comm is open to all gen recs of any theme!

Calling all reccers: things that go *boom*

  • Jan. 11th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Our new theme is one that is near and dear to SG-1's heart: blowing things up. :) Any gen story that focuses, or even features, the team making things go *boom* will fit this theme. So whether it's Sam blowing up a sun or the judicious use of C4 to break out of jail, we want to see those stories recced here!

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the theme: things that go *boom* tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

List of female friendship recs; what next?

  • Jan. 8th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
The comm has been quiet for too long! I kept hoping for more female friendship recs, but here's the list:

Of Belonging to Another, by Isabelle (PG-13)

Scotoma, by Rydra Wong (PG-13)

C is for Child by izhilzha

Thanks to [personal profile] rbmifan for her contribution. :)

I'll be posting a new theme this week. I welcome any suggestions. Don't forget that anyone can post gen recs at any time, whether or not they fit the current theme.
We've been running an open comm for the last six weeks or so. Many thanks to those who recced while I've been mostly away! Here's the list:

recs from Paian and Hathor Girl )

Time for a new theme! This time, we're going with female friendship. This isn't quite the same as our awesome women theme, although I won't be surprised if they overlap a bit. :) We want recs of stories that feature the friendship between women, including original or SGA characters. Sam and Janet, Carolyn and Vala, Gairwyn and Thilana (if such a story exists, PLEASE rec it! or write it, even!) -- if it features two women sharing a friendship, we want to see it recced here!

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on thecomm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the theme: female friendship tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

::taps:: Is this thing on?

  • Sep. 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 PM
Okay, so after having a grand total of three people out of 142 subscribers vote in the poll, I'm going to throw the comm open to any gen recs. Feel free to visit the theme page to see the various themes we've had over the years, but any rec will be welcome, as long as it's gen and related to SG-1.

Have fun, people, and keep the comm humming for me while I'm gone. :)

Jack friendship recs round-up; what next?

  • Sep. 13th, 2011 at 1:23 PM
We've been running the Jack friendship theme for over a month now, and I confess that I'm surprised to see so few recs. Here are the three that were posted:

Sufficient Illumination by kalquessa (G)

Untitled Jack Birthday Ficlets by Niamaea (G)

Structural Integrity, by Etrangerici (PG)

Shall we chalk it down to August and the general lack of fannishness during that time? Don't forget that even when we move on to different themes, recs that fit other themes (or no themes at all) are always welcome.

Now it's time to consider what next. some nattering and a poll under the cut )

Calling all reccers: Jack friendship recs!

  • Aug. 4th, 2011 at 7:59 PM
Time for a new theme here at [community profile] sg1genrecs!

This time, we're going to shine the spotlight on Jack friendship. Jack's friendship with Daniel, with Sam, with Teal'c; with George or Janet; with Kawalsky, Ferretti, Skaara, Landry, even Maybourne if you like the sleazeball guy more than I do! :) If you know a good gen fic that features Jack's friendship with anyone, even an original character, then we want to see it recced here.

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the theme:jack friendship tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.

Lost Episode recs round-up

  • Aug. 2nd, 2011 at 12:34 PM
We've had a very good run with our lost episode theme: twelve recs of stories with original plotlines that slot nicely into canon! Most of these were recced by [personal profile] rbmifan, who gets a Gold Rec Star. :)

Lost Episode recs )

non-themed recs )

We'll be announcing a new theme in the next day or so, but in the meantime, feel free to rec any gen fic that you enjoy, whether or not it fits any of our previous themes.
