Why this should be read: SG-1 have been captured and separated before the story begins, and we watch from Daniel's POV as Sam rescues the rest of the team almost single-handed. This is about the kickass Sam whom we saw in the episode "Space Race".* A really enjoyable fic with some great insights into Sam. About 1600 words.
*ETA: Just want to point out the fic has Nothing to do with "Space Race" I was using that episode as an example of the part of Sam's character that I think is less often seen on the show.
God save anyone who underestimated Sam Carter.

Link to story: Creak
Why this should be read:
Carter's sense of identity and pure cussed doggedness run deeper than conscious awareness, and it's deeply gratifying to be with her as her innate indomitability prevails over the memory-suppressing drugs she's dosed with after being captured and enslaved to the Goa'uld.
About 1685 words, and don't miss the remix linked at the bottom of the page.

Warnings: Violence, torture
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Fanfic For the Fearless
Link to story: The Good Wife
Why this should be read: This long (17,000 words), plotty character-driven story has great characterizations of the whole team, and Teal’c and Sam aren’t just vanishing into the woodwork. This is Smart!SG-1, behaving professionally on a mission that really sucks. Jack's relationship with Sam is lovely and non-shippy; Jack's relationship with Daniel is intense but non-slashy; Teal'c is love.

Link to story: Stay in Touch (subsequent sections linked on page); feedback
Why this should be read: Here's another rec for prison fics week - one of my favorite stories, too: Stay in Touch, in which the unintentional jailers' best intentions keep Jack and Daniel trapped in the dark beneath the surface of a planet with no way out.
Sam and Teal'c and the SGC doggedly try and try and try to rescue Jack and Daniel, even as they struggle to explain to their well-meaning captors that they need to get out. But their only method of communication is a deadly one - "One of us has to chat with these guys... and one of us has to stay sane." Can Jack and Daniel make it back to the dangerous surface, and relearn how to relate with normal human beings?
Bleakly, powerfully fantastic, with a epilogue that will leave you wincing, Stay in Touch is a long, satisfying read that you'll want to revisit over and over again.

Author's Fic: Master List
Why This Must Be Read:
It's hilarious, that's why. The summary is, "Jack and Sam get captured by the worst
bad guys ever." They may not be the worst, but they're sure the cutest. Written
for the Jack and Sam Friendathon, this story takes place relatively early in the
series. Sam learns that Jack is really very odd, sometimes, Jack learns that Sam
can be Evil, and Daniel and Ferreti learn never to get on Sam's bad side. I don't
want to spoil anything, but you have to read it
Stockholm Syndrome
Also, my apologies to the mods; a combination of computer trouble and problems with DW combined to make me have to write this entry twice, and the second time I forgot a few things. Here's hoping third time's the charm ...

Author's Webpage/Fic list: Eve's fic on lj
Link to story: Folsom Prison Blues and Proportional Hazards
Why this should be read: Best prison fic ever. :)
The team is so used to being tossed into the clink that they have a ratings system (although Teal'c invariably chooses "five.") I adore the humor, the snark, the seamless teamwork, how each person contributes individual skillsets, Sam's use of mathematics to win the SGC pool... and, hands down, entirely un-mattress-like cries!
(There's an extra snippet Eve wrote once in which Daniel calls the mattress "Lumpy." So much love.)

A question first, though: are people interested in these theme weeks? Do you like the idea of encouraging specific types of recs? How many people are actually interested in reccing, as opposed to simply reading what others rec?
(Are you under the impression that this is Fig Newton's personal rec archive? It's not. That's actually over here. This comm is for everybody to post recs.)
I would set up a poll, but I'm not a paid user. So I'd appreciate if you'd all take the time to comment and let me know how you'd like the comm to work, and what you'd like to see in the future. Also, if you have any suggestions for themes or characters to feature in future weeks, please include those, too!
In the meantime...
This week, we are looking for prison fic! Jail breakouts, prison cells, off-world or on-world - rec your favorite gen story that features jailtime, either for individuals or the entire team. Hurt/comfort, humor, drama, or fluff are all equally welcome!
You might want to read the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. And, as always, I will happily answer any questions you might have.
