Why this should be read: I love it when authors fill in the gaps between episodes. Here, we have a fantastic exploration of Charlie-the-Reetou's first weeks with the Tok'ra: his blending, his loneliness and uncertainty, some hard truths, and the beginnings of some real friendships. Just wonderful!

Why this should be read: Background for Malek and his host. A quote angsty, but also beautiful story of how Malek got his current host.

Why this should be read: Normally I don't read kidfic, but while this does follow the usual trope of 'alien device turns person into kid', the story is not quite like the others. This is the first one I have read that turns Tok'ra into kids - and not just the hosts. It's hilarious to see them not only behave as children, but also children who knows very little about Earth and its customs. I really enjoyed poor Jack O'Neill and Teal'c as they try to carry out the mission Hammond gives them - babysit their two team mates along with the three Tok'ra who are all now 6 years old!

Why this should be read: Lovely look at Malek and his host, with an emphasis on his host, who we otherwise never hear. In this story the host (called Darin here) has to rescue himself, his unconscious symbiote, and Bra'tac who is a prisoner of the Goa'uld they were undercover at. There are several funny passages, and Bra'tac and Malek/Darin starts to become friends, and the latter gets their chance of repaying the debt they talk about in the episode "Allegiance".

Why this should be read: An interesting look at the very early days of the Tok'ra (since before the Tok'ra existed), and why some of them - especially Jolinar and Egeria - became Tok'ra. I really love background fic, and this gives a wonderful account of not only Jolinar's early life and how she became a Tok'ra, but also shows much about Goa'uld society.
( Jolinar and her first host talking. )
This story has sequels (Undercover - the Life of a Tok'ra Operative) and (The Fall of Setona). The first of these follows Jolinar as a Tok'ra undercover operative, the other is background for Martouf, and how he became Lantash's host. Both of those have a minor amount of romance at the end (canon ship - Jolinar/Lantash).

Why this should be read:
"Of all the amoral former hosts I've spent time with, I wanted to kill you the least."
Anise/Freya got a really bad rap in fandom; there was more than a little misogyny in the "Tok'ra Barbie" label. And okay, she was annoying, but just because Our Heroes didn't like her doesn't make her Evil. This is the fic that fleshed her out and made her real to me, with all her flaws and all her strengths. And this fic is about Vala, too, another character who sometimes gets a bum rap in fandom. This fic is about their friendship, two very different women who learn to value one another. This fic is about Vala, recovering from her time as Qe'tesh's host and the immediate aftermath. I would never have imagined these two together, but I am so glad

Why This Must Be Read: Astrogirl offers a lovely, insightful retrospective into Jacob's mind as he and Selmac blend into something that is gloriously more than the sum of their parts.
Jacob's mental voice is delightful, as he slowly grows to learn, to understand, to joke and even to argue with the Tok'ra that is living in his head. There is his fear of the unknown and his courage to face it, and the wry humor of Selmac as they get to know each other better. There's thoughtful consideration of their joint changes in attitudes and ideals, and the peaceful acceptance of the life they've agreed to share... and the promise of a wonderful future.

Why this should be read: This is a novel-length story based on what if. What if Jack-and-Kanan escaped Ba'al and went on the run? Jack is, of course, quite whumped, and Daniel's visits aren't helping his sanity at this point. When Jack-and-Kanan meet up with the rest of the Tok'ra, Rydra goes on to portray both Kanan and Jack's relationship and overall Tok'ra culture and politics masterfully. It was an instant classic the moment it was posted.

Why this should be read: I haven't actually finished reading this story yet, as it's long. It's very good so far, though - plotty and interesting, looking at Sam's character and the Tok'ra and her relationship with Jolinar in a way we don't normally get to see. There's also team banter, which is always good.
Yvi's summary: When Jolinar doesn't die in the Ashrak attack, Sam is faced with a difficult decision. She can trust Jolinar and go to the Tok'ra base with her, hoping that they will be able find a new host, or she can stay at the SGC and trust the NID not to harm her. Sam decides to flee the base with Jolinar, not realizing that this is only the beginning of an adventure that will change her life.
Characters: Samantha Carter, Jolinar, Martouf, SG-1, Jacob Carter, various others
Pairings: It's complicated? Mostly gen with some *deep breath* Sam/Jolinar/Lantash/Martouf because, well, that's canon and has to be resolved, right? But 97.5% gen.
Word Count: ~65,000
Timeline: ventures into AU territory during/after "In the Line of Duty". After that, the timeline (most notably The Tok'ra/Secrets) is... a bit warped.

Stories that refer to canon Jolinar/Martouf (why don't we ever refer to Jolinar/Lantash, I wonder?) and to Martouf's UST transference of those feelings to Sam will be permitted, providing that there is nothing explicit and it is not the focus of the story. I trust you'll all use common sense. :)
