Why this should be read: It's not just a kitten that follows Daniel into his bathroom. It's not even just a Goa'uld kitten that follows Daniel into his bathroom. It's a macro-spouting baby Goa'uld LOLcat that follows Daniel into his bathroom, and about 2100 very funny words follow that.

Coming Into Being, by Raven (PG)

What happened to all those enthusiastic kidfic reccers?

Title: Coming Into Being

Categories: kidfic, team, humor, Hammond, Janet, Rothman, Nyan, Jacob
Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Sleeping With Ghosts
Link to story: Coming Into Being

Why this should be read: So the members of the team are suddenly downsized. What makes this so much fun, though, is the secondary cast of characters – Hammond, Janet, Jacob, and even Robert Rothman and Nyan (two of my favorites, to be honest!).

While the antics of the children are enjoyable – Jack’s Froot Loops, Daniel’s passive resistance against speaking (or wearing shoes), Sam’s flat refusal to wear anything pink and frilly – it’s really the reactions of the adults around them that make the reader smile. There’s Rothman’s frustration that his boss has turned into what he considers to be a horrible child; there’s Jacob’s secret delight at having some time back with his little girl again. And there’s Teal’c’s bemusement at the personalities of his younger teammates, and Nyan’s drive to help, and Janet’s struggle to communicate with Daniel...

This one is fluffy and fun, with a little character study sneaking around the edges. And it’s definitely a fic that you’re sure to enjoy.

I Like the Quiet by Wonderland (PG)

Why this should be read: This short, sweet piece offers a different perspective on Out of Mind/Into the Fire - what it was like for Janet and George during those wrenching three weeks when SG-1 was MIA and Teal'c was near death. The extra humor of the teamy goodness at the end just makes it that much more fun!

Lost in Translation, by Vathara (PG)

Title: Lost in Translation
Author's LJ/DWJ: unknown
Categories: under the influence, drama, team, humor, Walter, Janet, Hammond
Warnings: influence-induced kinda-sorta pairings (nothing explicit)
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Vathara at FF.net
Link to story: Lost in Translation

Why this should be read: A Goa'uld is too lazy to read the instructions, and a rabbit-shaped yellow furball almost takes down the SGC... entirely by accident!

I am very fond of this fic - it was the first ever story I recced! - and it is both hugely entertaining and easy to visualize as an episode happening on-screen. Like many other older FF.net fics, the scene breaks have been stripped out, making it somewhat hard to follow; but trust me when I say that it's worth it. Even with the extra "Danny"s. :)

I apologize in advance for not being able to get my snippet from the fic behind a cut. No matter what I'm doing I can't get it to hide!

Categories: Team, Humor, Under the Influence
Warnings: None
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Winterstar at Ancient's Musings
Link to story: Harry Potter and the Flagon with the Dragon
Why this should be read: Things get quite interesting when Sam, Jack, and Daniel suddenly believe they are characters (and by default everyone around them) from Harry Potter. This fic is funny and then takes a turn into a touching exchange between Jack and Daniel (aka Ron and Harry) before the humor and banter comes back. This is one of those fics that always makes me smile on re-reading.

Warnings: temporary major character deaths

Why this should be read: 1969 turned into a closed loop, but what about the timeline that took place the first time SG-1 went back -- before Hammond met them and was inspired to write the note to himself? And what about the timeline before that, when Lieutenant Hammond never met four displaced time travellers in the first place?

With her usual attention to detail and stellar characterization, Redbyrd takes us through two alternate versions of George Hammond's life. You will enjoy his bemused perspective of the four strangers that take him hostage, his careful manipulation of events to match his future with his past, and the honor and courage that affect his choices every step of the way.

Categories: theme: time travel, Cassie, drama, AU, episode related, General Hammond, angst, character study
Warnings: none

Link to story: The Other Side of the Time Loop

Why this should be read: To quote the original prompt: There must have been a closed time loop when SG-1 ended up stranded in the future, before Cassie and/or Sam somehow got word back to the past to have Cassie waiting at the right moment. What was life like for Cassie in the loop where SG-1 never came back from 1969?

Yvi did a fabulous job of creating an entire alternate reality in which SG-1 never came back. Her world's history is rich, detailed, and realistic: the Jaffa are more wary of the Tau'ri without Teal'c, the Asgard have less to do with them without Jack, and there is little information on the Ancients without Daniel. On the other hand, there are the fascinating twists of this other reality, including Furlings, the program gone public, victory over the Goa'uld, and a certain civilian becoming head of the SGC.

Cassie gets a long, satisfying life, including marriage and a family... and then she knows she's going to live another one, all over again.

Full disclaimer: the prompt that inspired this story was mine. Yvi did a great job with it, didn't she? :)

Separation Anxiety, by Debby (PG)

Link: Separation Anxiety

Why This Must Be Read: Debby offers a fantastic retelling of Solitudes from Daniel's POV, weighed by his desperate determination to find Jack and Sam and his promise to Teal'c that they will somehow get their friends back. Teal'c and Daniel's friendship is steadfast and solid in the course of their support for one another during their search.

Great scenes with Hammond, superb Teal'c, and excellent Daniel perspective. Separation Anxiety is definitely a keeper.
