Why this should be read: To quote the original prompt: There must have been a closed time loop when SG-1 ended up stranded in the future, before Cassie and/or Sam somehow got word back to the past to have Cassie waiting at the right moment. What was life like for Cassie in the loop where SG-1 never came back from 1969?
Yvi did a fabulous job of creating an entire alternate reality in which SG-1 never came back. Her world's history is rich, detailed, and realistic: the Jaffa are more wary of the Tau'ri without Teal'c, the Asgard have less to do with them without Jack, and there is little information on the Ancients without Daniel. On the other hand, there are the fascinating twists of this other reality, including Furlings, the program gone public, victory over the Goa'uld, and a certain civilian becoming head of the SGC.
Cassie gets a long, satisfying life, including marriage and a family... and then she knows she's going to live another one, all over again.
Full disclaimer: the prompt that inspired this story was mine. Yvi did a great job with it, didn't she? :)

Why this should be read: Bittersweet melancholy at the end of all things: Sam and Teal'c standing on a beach, waiting for the world to end. Gentle friendship layered with regret, and a short, worthy read.
Teal'c at her side, Sam closes her eyes, lets the last speck of chocolate dissolve, and takes a step forward so the water tugs at her ankles. They don't look back.

Why this should be read: After the Ori conquest the remaining members of sg-1 start a resistance movement. By the time of this story the rest of the team is not there (although their presence is still felt). Sam and Cam never give up - on either the future or their daily lives. Their stubborn insistence in continuing to try and put things right against absurd odds is perfectly in character, as is their mutual support and camaraderie.
It's a hopeful and beautifully written fic, with all the little details that make you believe that you are right there.
Written for the 2007 SG-1 Jubilee fic exchange: Thanksgiving with the Ori resistance.

Link to story: The Wrong Button
Why This Must Be Read: “Jack always suspected that one day Daniel would push the wrong button and the world would end.”
Of course, it’s which world that makes this story so fascinating…
What begins as fun and fluffy, with entertaining Wonder Twins geekery and fantastic Jack-and-Daniel banter, suddenly takes a ninety degree turn into horror when the wrong button gets pushed and Sam, Jack, and Daniel get to literally watch as a world is completely destroyed. There’s great characterization and wonderful dialogue, as Jack helps Daniel come to some kind of acceptance -- by reminding him of their shared history, and the triumphs and tragedies that inevitably result just from living.
Call this a sort of light apocafic, perhaps. But read it, and enjoy!

Why this should be read: To quote the summary for this thoughtful fic: angst, apocafic, hope, zombies, donuts.
Teal'c, lone survivor on Earth, slowly, contemplatively makes his way to Area 51 for what he prays will be his ticket off-planet. You will be moved by his thoughts on the Tau'ri, the little metal box of keepsakes he carries, and the final memento he takes from Earth, to serve as its legacy in the stars.
Despite being apocafic, this is almost gentle, and perfectly Teal'c... and you'll finish reading it with a smile.

This is Daniel's side of Abyss. It's a well-written and intense look at what it would be like to be Ascended, how it would change how you see the world ... and what it would be like to have that and have to watch your best friend be tortured. There is no dialogue. We see nothing of Jack's POV. But it's a painfully good look at the inside of Daniel's head in a horrible time.

Why this should be read:
Honestly, I wasn't sure if I should rec this fic, because the Stargate character who receives the greatest focus is Major Lorne, and it's after he leaves the SGC to become Sheppard's XO on Atlantis. However, I think there are enough SG-1 characters in large roles to qualify for this community.
Told from NCIS's POV, this fic provides an excellent and well-written look at the SGC from the outside. Gibbs and Co. have several dead scientists who may have been killed by Marines, and all their investigations lead to dead ends. Naturally, Gibbs is not one to bow out of a case just because some Air Force general hells him to; he's determined to solve the case and find out about whatever nefarious program they're so desperate to hide. As with all of Domenika's fic, the military details are perfect (or as perfect as possible given the source material).

Why this should be read: This short, sharp fic seems, at first, to be an earnest discussion about alternate realities, taking place between the members of SG-1 as they sit together in the commissary. Despite the big, honkin' clue, that's all I thought it was at first, myself.
It's fun to watch Daniel insist on a conversation that Jack would be quite happy to avoid, as he muses on the possibilities of alternate universes through the quantum mirror and the onus put upon them by their good fate. The conversation unravels into snark and good humor, and we think that the whole story is just a snapshot of SG-1 in the commissary...
Until. Until you read the final part of the fic, and you realize the timeframe of that conversation, and in just which reality it didn't take place.
And then you wince.
And then, if you're like me, you'll go back and read this powerful little story all over again.

Why this should be read: I'm fascinated by the episode Ripple Effect--so many alternate universes gone off in so many different directions! But I'm especially intrigued by the Black Team, who were willing to steal from another universe to save their own. This fic follows them back home, and proves that they're not entirely unlike "our" SG-1, despite the moral slippage of their last mission.
