Why this should be read: This hilarious comic strip (complete with full transcription) had me crying with laughter as it tells the real story behind the rebellion against Ra!

Not to mention the deep dark sekret about why cats can have eerily reflective eyes...

My favorite panels are the first two of page 6, but this is all great fun. Go read, giggle, and enjoy!

Why this should be read: Here are Moebius!Daniel and AU!Samantha, sitting on the sands of Ancient Egypt. This fic is a rarity: a Moebius!Daniel at peace with the choices he's made, and optimistic about a future that he himself will never get to see... and an AU!Samantha who is ready to hear about the woman she once was, even if it's never going to fit what she is right now.

Why this should be read: I recommend this fic to anyone who has seen Moebius, it is a really well executed story showing three of the possible alternate realities that might have been created by the events in that episode. The dialogue and character voices are all wonderful which makes the whole time travel/AU theme seem even creepier. About 4,770 words.

Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

Why this should be read:

This is one of the most innovative crossover mechanisms I've seen in a long time. It makes perfect sense, though. (Hint: it's post-Moebius, for Stargate canon.) It was just posted today, and I love it already. Very well done, and definitely worth the time to read.

Why this should be read: I guess the recent meta about Jack in [personal profile] princessofgeeks' journal and [livejournal.com profile] redbyrd_sgfic's fic put me in mind of cofax's wonderful take on Jack O'Neill. This very short story is just how I would imagine the original sg-1 stranded in the past, with Jack doing his best to take care of his team.

Post-ep for Moebius. Five thousand years of history, and they're running out of time.

Why this should be read: I have a special fondness for Moebius fic that highlights the closeness between our Daniel and AU!Teal'c. One of these, Singing Down the Moon, has already been recced here. But With the Dying is the first - and the best - that I ever read.

Here is a Daniel who has lost his team, and is faced with three people who wear their faces but do not share their life experiences. And now he has to stand sentinel over another Teal'c, who has a symbiote that will soon mature, and no access to tretonin, and who makes an inevitable decision...

And the last paragraph will break your heart.

An empty, echoing future for the sake of freedom for others. Lonely. Powerful. Good.

Once Upon a Time in Egypt, by LJ (PG)

Why this should be read: We can understand why Moebius!Daniel Jackson, who got shot down in his last presentation and never got hired by Catherine to unlock the Stargate, might end up teaching ESL eight years down the line. But how can we explain Sam's alternate history, and her failure to join the Air Force?

LJ, with lovely elegance, gently traces the ripples and swirls in history that led to the changes in Sam's backstory. Twisting tenses, the butterfly effect, shifting events, and a crucial moment... LJ tracks it all, and then lets it spool outwards all over again to the reality we know so well.

Thoughtful, unique, and beautifully done.

Categories: episode related, era: season 8
Warnings: From the author: I had to deal with the ship/slash stuff the episode raised, so even though it’s still gen (to my thinking), if you’re extra-sensitive to even hearing about any of it, you may want to skip it.
Author's Webpage/Fic list: LJ Index
Link to story: You Can't Always Get What You Want
Why this should be read: As the author says, Dedicated to everyone who watched Moebius Part 2 and thought, “WTF did they just do to my Daniel??? Strand him in hell with Teal’c and the Kama Sutra Twits?” Between this and her warning, you can guess that TPTB's injection of shippiness into the episode is dealt with. In fact, Betacandy takes on TPTB's waffle-y little hints of ship and slash throughout the show, and doesn't flinch from the characters' weaknesses. Instead she has the characters finally grow up and act like mature adults, for cryin' out loud! (Oh, how I would love to smack the writers over the head with this fic.)

But YCAGWYW isn't all soap opera. Moebius also stranded the characters in Ancient Egypt—an awfully angsty move in a "humorous" episode—and Betacandy gives them a wonderful fix. Along the way she "rescues" another stranded favorite, and comes up with a really astounding backstory that ties together events throughout the seasons. It's a wonderfully smart story, with a dash of angst, plenty of humor, and peppered with insight. This is my canon for what happened to the characters—a balm for my heart.

Singing Down the Moon, by Butterfly (PG)

Why This Must Be Read: Is there anything more heartbreaking than Moebius? Daniel is trapped in Ancient Egypt with a Sam and Jack and Teal'c that are not the people he knew, and AU Teal'c fights for a future which he has never known, and will never get the chance to see. And in Singing Down the Moon, Butterfly lovingly paints a vivid scene from Teal'c's POV, as he asks Daniel, in the aftermath of their victory over Ra, to help him die.

Elegant and elegiac, Teal'c watches Daniel, comparing him with the Daniel he himself killed. He listens to the velvet voice that bespeaks the bright and shining future that neither one will get to enjoy. And he takes comfort in a strength that they both share, in their unwavering convictions.

Beautifullly wrenching. You will remember this one for a long time to come.
