Why this should be read:
What would happen if Daniel and Ronon met before the discovery of Atlantis? In One Forgotten Day, vain glorious gives us a possible scenario that is interesting, believable, and, surprisingly, not AU. Daniel is investigating an unusual Ancient device on an off-world dig and gets saddled with a suspicious Ronon who hasn't quite grasped the fact that he's in the wrong galaxy. What follows is First Contact Daniel-style, as he slowly gets this strange man to open up to him, and a twist ending that proves sometimes the Ancients do clean up after themselves (albeit not in the way we mortals would like them to). It's fun, it's in character, and it's quality outsider-POV if you read it as an Atlantis fan.

Triptych, By Mad Maudlin (PG-13)

Warnings: none

Why this should be read: I recommend this fic to anyone who has seen Moebius, it is a really well executed story showing three of the possible alternate realities that might have been created by the events in that episode. The dialogue and character voices are all wonderful which makes the whole time travel/AU theme seem even creepier. About 4,770 words.

Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

Why this should be read: Aside from the author's always wonderful dialogue and pitch perfect character voices, just one word - Tribbles. About 790 words.

Jack feels that the words "The good thing is ..." are always a little ominous.

Categories: Friendship, Crossover, SG-1/SGA, Elizabeth Weir, Daniel Jackson
Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Outside the Box
Link to story: Unknown Waters

Why this should be read: Gorgeous writing, perceptive Elizabeth, and Daniel using archaeological metaphors. In this lovely fic Elizabeth and Daniel talk before the Atlantis mission leaves. About 1,200 words.

If one tries to navigate unknown waters one runs the risk of shipwreck.

Title: Ascend the Brightest Heaven of Invention
Author's LJ/DWJ/AO3: [livejournal.com profile] scrollgirl   [personal profile] scrollgirl   [archiveofourown.org profile] scrollgirl
Categories: AU, Friendship, Crossover, SG-1/SGA, Jeannie McKay, Carolyn Lam
Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: scrollgirl at Archive of Our Own
Link to story: Ascend the Brightest Heaven of Invention

Why this should be read: This is the first in what became an AU series, where some of the interesting minor characters from both shows are in the spotlight. The episode "Rising" is re-imagined and the new characters are shown preparing, (including off-world training), for the mission to Atlantis. I really enjoyed the mention of so many old friends, (Sarah Gardner! Catherine Langford! Ferretti!), and the friendship between Jeannie McKay and Carolyn Lam.

In 2005, Jeannie McKay prepares for the trip of a lifetime: a possibly one-way ticket to the Pegasus galaxy in search of the lost city of the Ancients. Stargate AU in which Jeannie, not Rodney, as well Sam Carter, Carolyn Lam, and many more female scientists are part of the original Atlantis expedition in "Rising".

Free 'Verse by Dasha (PG)

Title: Free 'Verse
Author's LJ/DWJ: [livejournal.com profile] dashamte
Categories: Friendship, Humor, Crossover, Rodney McKay, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson
Warnings: Some language and violence, also the story of Schroedinger's cat (an epic poem) by Cecil Adams used without permission.
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Dasha on Wraithbait
Link to story: Free 'Verse

Why this should be read: This short fic is so charming and full of convincing detail, that the characters and gate 'verse spring to life. Daniel translates Ancient poetry, Sam and Rodney argue about physics, eat hamburgers and write equations on their napkins. About 3,750 words.

Rodney. Sam. Gardening instructions. Physics. Oh, and also muggers.

Categories: SG-1/SGA crossover, Daniel, McKay, horror, drama
Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Martha at AO3
Link to story: : in 4 parts on LJ or in one page at website

Why this should be read: This riveting drama reads like a classic horror movie: the broken-down car on a stormy night, the strange small town in the back of nowhere, the two hapless scientists stalked by terrible evil...

Only in this case, the victims in question are Daniel Jackson and Rodney McKay.

These scientists fight back.

Creepy and evocative, with great insight into Daniel's character and an excellent portrayal of McKay, this story will grip you and leave you looking over your shoulder. Eerily, frighteningly good.

Where You Hang Your Hat, by Destina (G)

Title: Where You Hang Your Hat
Author's LJ/DWJ: [personal profile] destina
Categories: Sam, SG-1/SGA crossover, team, character study
Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: unknown
Link to story: Where You Hang Your Hat

Why this should be read: Sam Carter may have taken command of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy, but three heartbeats still connect her to Earth.

This is a gentle, loving tribute to the closeness of SG-1 that will never go away, as Sam's first weeks of command are enlivened by messages from back home: from Daniel, from Jack, from Teal'c. Sweet, insightful, humorous, and utterly delightful, Where You Hang Your Hat is the shining best of both shows, and a story you'll remember for a long time to come.

Calling all reccers: SG-1/SGA fics!

  • Nov. 14th, 2010 at 12:23 PM
Last month, our theme was Janet friendship. I'm still not very good at gauging interest, because I was hoping for lots and lots of recs. Instead, we had a very scanty month. Here's the rec list:

Janet friendship recs )

In the non-themed category, there was one rec: When Narnia and SG-1 Collide, by Cofax (G)

So onto a new theme, and let's hope this one garners more enthusiasm: SG-1/SGA crossovers. This includes SGA characters in the SGC and SG-1 characters on Atlantis. For the purposes of this comm, Sam fics set in SGA S4 are only eligible if they involve her connection with SG-1 and/or characters from the SGC. If you know of a gen fic that involves both SG-1 and SGA, we want to see it recced here!

Feel free to refresh your memory of the comm rules at the FAQ before posting. Official format is included in the FAQ entry and on the comm's profile page. If you choose to tag your own entry (you don't have to do so), please include the theme: SGA crossover tag as well as any others that you find appropriate. And if you need a tag that isn't yet available, please comment and let me know.
