Whythis should be read: This highly entertaining little romp features Daniel and the team off-world, bumping into Doctor Who, Romana, and a rampaging herd of wild boars with laser pistols. Absolutely guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

The really strange thing, he considered, looking at Romana's handwriting, was that when it came to his luck with women, getting a new vocabulary item out of the encounter and watching the lady in question run away under her own power actually constituted a significant improvement.

Why this should be read: Another fun Doctor Who crossover (this from the woman who has never seen a single ep of any incarnation of Doctor Who, ever) as Ten and Martha meet Cam's SG-1 off-world. Stellar characterization with a few deft exchanges of dialogue will leave you grinning and wishing for more!

“It was the NID, wasn’t it?”

“No,” said Martha, wondering what the NID was. “Judoon. Mercenary space rhinos,” she clarified when Daniel looked at her questioningly.

“Oh,” said Daniel. “Space rhinos. Of course.”

Why this should be read: This is nothing short of gleeful: fanboy!Doctor Who meets SG-1 and saves a library!

Oh, c'mon, you can't resist reading that... :)

The guy wearing glasses was the only one not pointing a weapon at them. “Guys?” he said, raising a finger. “I’m pretty sure the bad guys don’t normally wear bowties.”

“No,” said the Doctor, fingering his bowtie, “bad guys are not cool enough to wear bowties.”

“Why, Daniel,” muttered the older white man in the baseball cap, “I think you just found yourself a twin.”

Why this should be read: Clone!Jack might be a bit bemused at the sudden appearance of a certain manic Doctor, but I love the choices he makes in this one. This is a Jack who is at peace with his own decisions and the direction his life is taking. Immensely charming, wryly amusing, but so very, very right.

“Your eyes are old,” the man said.

“So are yours,” Jack retorted.

Why this should be read: Retired!Jack searching the woods alone for a cloaked murderer with a zat. Fatherfigure!Jack accidentally burning his waffle while looking for syrup for Dean's waffle. Fidgety!Jack playing with his yo-yo in a library. Not to mention badass!Jack taking ghosts and the like pretty much in stride.

One Forgotten Day by Vain Glorious (PG-13)

Author's LJ/DWJ: [livejournal.com profile] vain_glorious
Categories: Daniel, Lost Episode, Stargate Atlantis Crossover

Author's Webpage/Fic list: LJ Fic Index
Link to story: livejournal
Why this should be read:
What would happen if Daniel and Ronon met before the discovery of Atlantis? In One Forgotten Day, vain glorious gives us a possible scenario that is interesting, believable, and, surprisingly, not AU. Daniel is investigating an unusual Ancient device on an off-world dig and gets saddled with a suspicious Ronon who hasn't quite grasped the fact that he's in the wrong galaxy. What follows is First Contact Daniel-style, as he slowly gets this strange man to open up to him, and a twist ending that proves sometimes the Ancients do clean up after themselves (albeit not in the way we mortals would like them to). It's fun, it's in character, and it's quality outsider-POV if you read it as an Atlantis fan.

Why This Must Be Read: Vala and Teyla, both writing reports for the same mission. We need both Teyla's cool diplomatic wording and Vala's blunt and easy manner to get the real picture of what happened, but when you put it all together, you'll find it hard to stop laughing!

Teamy goodness, snark, and just the right amount of silliness to make this an absolute delight.

To Catch a Falling Star by Wonderland

Title: To Catch a Falling Star
Author's LJ/DWJ: sg_wonderland
Categories: theme: kidfic, au, tag: Fallen, character: daniel, crossover: NCIS
Warnings: None
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Fic List
Link to story: Wonderland
Why this should be read:

And here's the other fic that stuck with me after my kidfic-spree a few months ago. This is an alternate take on the episode Fallen: about a year after Dr. Daniel Jackson takes his leave of Earth, the NCIS crew come across a young boy lying naked in the middle of a crime scene. Unsure of his identity and connection to the murder, they take him into custody. But how can a little boy have the exact same fingerprints as an MIA civilian consultant to the Air Force?

I love Wonderland's portrayal of downsized!Daniel here. He's obviously affected by the whole amnesia and waking up next to a dead body thing, but he's not overly emotional and in general he acts a lot like how I imagine Daniel as a kid would act. Great reactions by the NCIS crew, too (most of the fic is from their POV), though I confess I'm not terribly familiar with the series.

Why this should be read: I recommend this fic to anyone who has seen Moebius, it is a really well executed story showing three of the possible alternate realities that might have been created by the events in that episode. The dialogue and character voices are all wonderful which makes the whole time travel/AU theme seem even creepier. About 4,770 words.

Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

Jack feels that the words "The good thing is ..." are always a little ominous.

Why this should be read: Gorgeous writing, perceptive Elizabeth, and Daniel using archaeological metaphors. In this lovely fic Elizabeth and Daniel talk before the Atlantis mission leaves. About 1,200 words.

If one tries to navigate unknown waters one runs the risk of shipwreck.

Why this should be read: This is the first in what became an AU series, where some of the interesting minor characters from both shows are in the spotlight. The episode "Rising" is re-imagined and the new characters are shown preparing, (including off-world training), for the mission to Atlantis. I really enjoyed the mention of so many old friends, (Sarah Gardner! Catherine Langford! Ferretti!), and the friendship between Jeannie McKay and Carolyn Lam.

In 2005, Jeannie McKay prepares for the trip of a lifetime: a possibly one-way ticket to the Pegasus galaxy in search of the lost city of the Ancients. Stargate AU in which Jeannie, not Rodney, as well Sam Carter, Carolyn Lam, and many more female scientists are part of the original Atlantis expedition in "Rising".

Why this should be read: This short fic is so charming and full of convincing detail, that the characters and gate 'verse spring to life. Daniel translates Ancient poetry, Sam and Rodney argue about physics, eat hamburgers and write equations on their napkins. About 3,750 words.

Rodney. Sam. Gardening instructions. Physics. Oh, and also muggers.

Why this should be read: This riveting drama reads like a classic horror movie: the broken-down car on a stormy night, the strange small town in the back of nowhere, the two hapless scientists stalked by terrible evil...

Only in this case, the victims in question are Daniel Jackson and Rodney McKay.

These scientists fight back.

Creepy and evocative, with great insight into Daniel's character and an excellent portrayal of McKay, this story will grip you and leave you looking over your shoulder. Eerily, frighteningly good.

Why this should be read: Sam Carter may have taken command of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy, but three heartbeats still connect her to Earth.

This is a gentle, loving tribute to the closeness of SG-1 that will never go away, as Sam's first weeks of command are enlivened by messages from back home: from Daniel, from Jack, from Teal'c. Sweet, insightful, humorous, and utterly delightful, Where You Hang Your Hat is the shining best of both shows, and a story you'll remember for a long time to come.
