Why this should be read: Marthe Wilson is mostly known in the Stargate fandom for her fabulous Retrograde AU, which is SGA-centric with added SG-1. But she has also written this hilarious crossover with The Legendary Journeys, which is fantastic teamy goodness and a shamelessly fun romp. Like all good crossovers, knowledge of the second fandom isn't really necessary (outside the vaguest familiarity with the legend of Hercules) as Jack accidentally intercepts the "blue swirly doorways" that apparently exist in The Legendary Journeys universe and drags Iolaus back through the Stargate's wormhole with him.

There's great banter, delightful characterization, seamless teamwork, multiple crises, and snark galore. And while the SGC doesn't often get mistaken for "troglodytes," this is one crossover that will leave you wanting more!

Because Daniel is Awesome and Romana is even more awesome. Because it's funny and still in character for everyone. It's very funny even if you don't have any more than a vague idea who the Doctor and Romana are. (They are time traveling aliensfrom Gallifrey who travel around the universe. That's all you need to know, seriously.)

Author's Webpage/Fic list: God, I wish she had a complete list with everything somewhere. I'd settle for just using the same name everywhere. Main places I've found are: FF.net (where she is Christina K), Stargatefan (where she is C.L. Kamnikar), her LJ (she has tags for fanfic and fic, not sure what the difference is), her defunct website can be found on the internet archive, and she seems to have a current website that requires a username and password to logon (chaos.horsechicks.com). She also has a Roswell fic and some Buffy fics which you have to scroll through other authors to find (and OMG the popups on that site). Or you can google her yourself; known names include Christina Kamnikar, Christina K, Chaos, the butterfly, Kiki, and Chris.

Why this should be read:

There are not words to describe how hysterically funny this fic is. Jack and Teal'c go golfing through the Stargate to let off steam during Window of Opportunity. This fic is funny and totally in character, and fits perfectly within that episode. You must read this, there are not words for how perfect it is.

Harsh Reality, by Raven (G)

Warnings: none
Author's Webpage/Fic list: Sleeping With Ghosts
Link to story: Harsh Reality

Why this should be read: This short, sharp fic seems, at first, to be an earnest discussion about alternate realities, taking place between the members of SG-1 as they sit together in the commissary. Despite the big, honkin' clue, that's all I thought it was at first, myself.

It's fun to watch Daniel insist on a conversation that Jack would be quite happy to avoid, as he muses on the possibilities of alternate universes through the quantum mirror and the onus put upon them by their good fate. The conversation unravels into snark and good humor, and we think that the whole story is just a snapshot of SG-1 in the commissary...

Until. Until you read the final part of the fic, and you realize the timeframe of that conversation, and in just which reality it didn't take place.

And then you wince.

And then, if you're like me, you'll go back and read this powerful little story all over again.

The Blue Jell-O Metaphor, by Surreallis

Why this should be read: This is my definitive Sam Carter fic. It showcases her brilliant contrasts and why I love her so much.

Surrealis does an amazing job of presenting us with the many aspects of Samantha Carter: her struggle as the only woman on the team, her frustration that her brilliance scares off men before a relationship can even begin, her isolation from the women who are supposed to be her peers. Ridiculous expectations from one side are paired with contemptuous dismissal from another, and Sam sees herself as the single glass of blue Jell-O in a sea of red.

But then she's reminded of what she does have: an equally brilliant teammate who appreciates her mind and personality; a different teammate who knows, all too well, what it means to be an outsider and offers solidarity; and a CO who exasperates and inspires and encourages her in turn, to become ever greater than she already is.

"Super Sam" meets Major Sam meets Sam the woman meets Sam of SG-1, and they all decide, together, that things are pretty much okay the way they are... But she still isn’t wearing the tights!

Categories: Dangerous Daniel, other SG teams

Why this should be read: Daniel is smart and capable, in both languages and military stuff. Ferretti is cool, as are the rest of his team, and Sam and Teal'c. There is humour and friendship and some plot as well. It's basically a collection of missing scenes and ep tags from seasons 3 and 4, all linked together to make a story that fits in with canon and explains the bits the show glosses over. Daniel demonstrates that he is actually good at his job, and it isn't just lucky flukes, yet the fic still refrains from going overboard and making him flawless.

Why This Must Be Read: Here's another rec for our Dangerous Daniel theme!

You know all those cliched fanfics in which poor, woobie Daniel is bullied by nasty, mean Marines?

...You know, that Daniel? The one who stands up to the Goa'uld (even when he's on his knees) and, to quote this priceless fic, has had his "penchant for biting sarcasm" once "registered as a lethal weapon on an alien planet"?

Trust me. This story is not that kind. :)

With a hilarious series of phone calls from Jack and a zinger of a tag line from Reynolds, this fantastic ficlet will have you laughing out loud, even as you're nodding in agreement. Because really, no one could ever bully Daniel Jackson and live to tell the tale!

Daniel blinked, twice. Opened his mouth. Closed it. A marine wandered into the locker room, took one look at Daniel's face, and headed right back out.

Why this should be read:

The archaeologist is not harmless. Seriously. These two stories are both funny and true to the characters, which is a very rare thing. And Daniel kicks ass. Set post-Prometheus Unbound. General O'Neill reviews the performance of the SGC personnel aboard Prometheus and Daniel explains to Reynolds why he doesn't date crazy people. In the sequel, after their premature return from the Prometheus, SG-3 and Daniel Jackson are assigned to help train some new recruits.

Why This Must Be Read:

It's hilarious, that's why. The summary is, "Jack and Sam get captured by the worst
bad guys ever." They may not be the worst, but they're sure the cutest. Written
for the Jack and Sam Friendathon, this story takes place relatively early in the
series. Sam learns that Jack is really very odd, sometimes, Jack learns that Sam
can be Evil, and Daniel and Ferreti learn never to get on Sam's bad side. I don't
want to spoil anything, but you have to read it

Stockholm Syndrome

Also, my apologies to the mods; a combination of computer trouble and problems with DW combined to make me have to write this entry twice, and the second time I forgot a few things. Here's hoping third time's the charm ...

Why this should be read: Best prison fic ever. :)

The team is so used to being tossed into the clink that they have a ratings system (although Teal'c invariably chooses "five.") I adore the humor, the snark, the seamless teamwork, how each person contributes individual skillsets, Sam's use of mathematics to win the SGC pool... and, hands down, entirely un-mattress-like cries!

(There's an extra snippet Eve wrote once in which Daniel calls the mattress "Lumpy." So much love.)

Why this should be read: Gleeful SG-13 for the win! Dave Dixon and his merry band, hiding out from dinosaurs - and utterly unfazed, because hey, this kind of insanity is routine.

Great banter and teamy goodness and wacky scientists - what more could you want?

Yeah, he reflected. Weird rocks, killer alien robots, and flying dinosaurs. Dave Dixon, this is your life now.
